Stewart Creek Wind

The Stewart Creek Wind Project is a proposed renewable energy development located southwest of Fort St. John in northeast British Columbia, developed through a partnership between West Moberly First Nations and Innergex Renewable Energy.

The project was awarded an Energy Purchase Agreement by BC Hydro through its 2024 Call for Power. Designed to generate clean, reliable electricity while respecting the land and community values, the project is targeting up to 199.9 MW which is enough energy to power approximately 35,000 homes in BC annually.

The proposed development would include approximately 35 wind turbines, along with supporting infrastructure such as collector lines, an electrical substation, maintenance facilities, access roads, and other temporary works such as quarries and laydown areas. The Stewart Creek Wind Project is strategically located in an area with existing resource road networks, a strong wind resource and existing transmission capacity, allowing it to efficiently connect to the provincial grid while minimizing new infrastructure. Subject to approvals and continued collaboration, construction is scheduled to begin in late 2028, with commercial operations targeted by 2030 and an operating EPA term of 30 years.

Sustainable development is central to the project’s approach, supported by ongoing engagement and extensive environmental and technical work—including wildlife, vegetation, birds and bats, aquatic habitat, archaeological, geotechnical, and noise/visual studies—to inform project design and help ensure potential effects are carefully understood and addressed. Through partnership, careful planning, and open dialogue, the Stewart Creek Wind Project aims to deliver clean energy while creating shared benefits for the community, supporting reconciliation, and contributing to a more sustainable energy future for British Columbia; as work progresses, studies and field programs continue to guide responsible siting and design. Input from Indigenous and local communities will help shape how the project is planned, built, and operated.
