History

The Trent-Severn Power Corporation was founded by the Campbell family in 1990 to develop a 5MW facility at lock No. 4 on the Trent-Severn Waterway.

The Campbells had signed, at that time, long-term contracts with Hydro Ontario (now Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation) and Canada Parks for the permission to occupy land and to use surplus water for the purpose of generating electrical power.

In the spring of 1998, the Campbells decided to sell the corporation along with the contracts and permits to TD Capital Group Ltd. (via its subsidiary, IHI Hydro Inc.). Concurrently to this operation, IHI has completed a contract with Innergex's management for furnishing development and project management services.

The Batawa Facility was commissioned in December 1999 and its commercial operations started in March 2000.
