Overview
This Facility is located on the Trent River, which is part of the Trent-Severn Waterway (lock No. 4) linking Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay. The beautiful and peaceful southern stretch of the waterway is different from both the Kawartha Lakes - which are very popular among pleasure boaters - and the untamed Severn River to the north. Six locks, spread along a 10-km section of river, enable boats to quickly negotiate a 35-metre change in elevation.
On the Frankford route, the hydroelectric facilities and the locks are side by side, which reveals the Trent River's position at the forefront of Ontario's electrical production.
