Portneuf 1-2-3

History

On August 15, 1991, Innergex entered into an emphyteutic lease with Stone-Container (Canada) Inc. for the development rights of PN1, PN2 and PN3 on the Portneuf River.

That emphyteutic lease was amended since and transferred to a subsidiary.

The term of the Portneuf emphyteutic lease expires on the last day of December 2025, and may be renewed by Innergex for an additional 25-year period, on the same terms and conditions.

Since the summer of 2001, Innergex has been offering canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts free shuttles for the transportation of their boats. The trailer can carry eight boats and the shuttle provides daily service from Highway 132 to a boat-launching site some 45 km upstream from the mouth of the Crans Serrés Rapids (PN3).

Hydro-Québec has initiated a partial diversion of the waters naturally flowing in the Portneuf River towards the Bersimis River's basin, effectively reducing the flow available for the Portneuf Facilities by 5-15%. As of September 27, 2002, the effective date of the diversion, the penalties for delivering less than the agreed-upon minimum annual power are no longer applicable. Considering that the amount of water available for the generation of electricity by the Portneuf Facilities has been reduced, the Portneuf PPA provides that Innergex shall receive cash compensation for lost revenues directly resulting from the diversion. This situation reduces the hydrology risk while ensuring a stable income stream for the Portneuf Facilities.

These three Facilities were commissioned in 1996.
